This beautiful home on Charleston’s High Battery affords a glimpse of early 19th century elegance, style and comfort. Built in 1825, the house contains Alston family furniture, silver, books and paintings. Three piazzas offer incredible views of Charleston Harbor. In 1861, General Beauregard watched the bombardment of Ft. Sumter here.

I wasn't sure kids would like this but they really did. The docent was so great in telling the story of the home and the families that have lived there and making the history come alive.

The Edmonston-Alston House stood out from all the other houses I visited. It was larger with a very scenic view of the river from the piazza. I found out that through many generations of owners, the style changesa bit. There were several layers of paint on the walls, all of different hues. Also, the house may pass on to many different families that may renevate the house and change it to fit their lifestyle.

The people in the house were super nice. They gave me a fun I spy sheet that could be used inside and outside of the house. The house had a beautiful view.
